BMW PGA Championship
Article Posted: 20th May 2013
Following his day at Close House, which he said he thoroughly enjoyed, Lee made an overnight stop at Worksop to catch up with the family, before travelling on to Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship.
He lost to Luke Donald in a play-off here in 2011 and finished T33rd last year.
Lee has had a busy week so far, he was with the PING GOLF prizewinners at The Buckinghamshire on Monday, at the Royal Windsor Racecourse on Monday evening and was reunited with the winning 2012 Ryder Cup Team when he attended the European Tour Dinner on Tuesday evening.
"We don’t get the opportunity to play a tournament in England very often so it’s nice to be able to do so at the flagship event of the European Tour this week", Lee said at the Previews. "Hopefully I’ll play well, carry on the form I’ve got going, and go one better than two years ago".
Lee had a 1 o'clock start from the first with Ernie Els and Francesco Molinari on Thursday. With a bogey at 3 and a birdie at 4, Lee completed the outward nine in par. He almost holed in one at the 10th but was left with a short birdie putt. His group had just moved on to the 11th when the klaxon sounded, suspending play due to thunder and lightning.
Play did not resume until 5.15, Lee birdied 12 and continued to make par at the remaining holes, signing for a round of 70, 2-under par and in T8th place.
Lee had an earlier 8.35 tee-time on Friday. Playing in difficult weather conditions he recorded a 1-under 71.
He had a 12.35 start with Simon Khan on Saturday, giving an excellent performance (4-under 68) finishing 8 under for the event and one shot behind leader Alejandro Canizares.
"Much better today", he said. "I didn't need to rely on my short game so much, although it was there when I needed it. Better iron shots. I'm putting well from inside 6 feet. Only missed one on the 16th. I misread that one!"
"This is the most prestigious title on the European Tour, so this is the number one title to get".
