Lee Westwood will be the patron of the 2010 National Golf Club Challenge charity golf event, in aid of Help for Heroes and has also given permission for the Challenge Trophy – being commissioned by Wedgwood, creators of the World Golf Championship trophies – to bear his name.
Local Nottinghamshire clubs already supporting the event include Beeston Fields, Cotgrave Place, Nottingham City and Oakmere Park Commanders Club.
Lee said: "Together we have the chance to change the lives of those who have sacrificed and endured so much so we might live full and free lives.
Many brave men and women have suffered often the most horrendous injuries in the line of duty and these heroes deserve our whole-hearted support in July.
I'm honoured to become patron to the challenge and deeply humbled to be asked by Wedgwood to name the National Golf Club Challenge Trophy for the 'The Lee Westwood Cup'."
Gerry O'Keeffe, manager for sports and special markets at WWRD, said: "Lee Westwood exemplifies the professionalism of the modern-day game, displaying all the hallmarks of the truly great sportsman. He is the perfect candidate to carry on the tradition and lend his name to another great trophy."
